What it takes to gross €1 million box office. Exclusive report from the Estonian producer and founder of Taska Film at the "Film Business" conference

27 July 2017, 11:45

Producer Kristian Taska will present a case study and success story of the Estonian comedy "Klassikokkutulek" (Class Reunion) at the conference "Film Business" in the course of international media forum KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2017.

In 2016 Taska Film's "Klassikokkutulek" set a new box office record among national films. The film, directed by Rene Vilbre, has grossed more than €1 million, leaving behind American blockbusters. In a country with a population of 1.4 million people and less than 90 screens about 190,000 tickets were sold. This is more than such animation hits from Hollywood majors as "Ice Age", "The Secret Life of Pets" and "Zootopia".

During his speech Kristian Taska will talk about the methods of project development, attracting investments, developing a strategy for promoting films on the local and international market, his experience of international co-production and much more.

Taska Film, founded in 2000 by Kristian Taska, is the leading Estonian film production company. Four films, which became the box office leaders in the history of Estonian cinema were produced by Taska Film. Among them, there are: "Names of the Marble" (2002), "1944" (2015), "Klassikokkutulek / Class Reunion" (2016), and "The Dissidents" (2017). It is worth noting that in 2015 the war drama "1944" was Estonia's entry for Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

In addition, Taska Film was one of the first prodcos to successfully take advantage of the rebates system, launched in Estonia in 2016. During his presentation, Kristian Taska will also talk about the features and advantages of the rebates system using the example of the project "The Eternal Road" (Ikitie), the production of which Taska Film carried out jointly with the Finnish MRP Matila Röhr Productions and Swedish Anagram.

The conference "Film Business" will be held on September 20 in Paris conference hall at Hyatt Regency Kyiv in the course of the international media forum KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2017.
