Format Show 2017

Format Show is a one-day conference dedicated to format industry and screening of the newest and the most popular TV formats from all around the world. The event’s 8-year long history has proven that Format Show became an excellent meeting point for TV industry representatives from Ukraine and CIS with the partners from all over the world, as well as an effective platform for discovering current trends of international format business.

Every time Format Show brings the participants’ attention to an extensive line-up of new and the most relevant TV formats of various genres from prodcos and distributors from all over the world. Also, the conference is full of interesting case studies and the latest data analysis, reflecting the global format industry trends.

FORMAT SHOW 2017 program 

Screenings of freshest formats of shows and series from all around the world. This year 57 new titles of various genres from such prodcos and distributors were presented: all3media international, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, BBC Worldwide, Red Arrow International, FremantleMedia, Endemol Shine Group, Armoza Formats, Dori Media, Eccho Rights, Small World IFT, Global Agency, Fuji Creative Corporation, CBS Studios, etc.

CEO of CEETV (Bulgaria) Georgi R. Chakarov presented a special report “Formats that defined 2017”. 

Keynote speech “10 things you should know before you sell formats internationally” by Co-chairman of FRAPA and CEO of Missing Link Media (Denmark) Jan Salling. What is the difference between a local format success only and a local format which can be exported? How do you present a format internationally and increase your chances of selling it? How do you avoid being ripped off? Format Show 2017 participants learned this and much more in a session with Jan Salling who has almost 30 years of experience from production and international distribution.

Panel discussion “Cracking the format industry: what can one learn from big format exporters”. Speakers: Samantha Ferguson, Format Sales Executive from Banijay Rights (UK); Eric Kafoe, VP Licensing, Talpa Global (The Netherlands); Natalia Yakovleva, Sales Director, Kvartal 95 (Ukraine); Kateryna Vyshnevska, Head of Development and Co-Productions, FILM.UA Group (Ukraine); Magdalena Garbacz, Formats Manager for CEMA, BBC Worldwide (UK). Moderator – Ed Waller, Editorial Director, C21Media (UK).

“The supply of intellectual property for the global format business is becoming more diverse, creating opportunities galore for developers all around the world. This panel session explored what one can learn from countries that have successfully made the transition from IP importer to exporter, in terms of development, commissioning, production, rights, regulation and marketing”, – comments the session’s moderator Ed Waller.

A special presentation and screening “A familiar future: the reboot renaissance” by David Ciaramella, Communications Manager of British consultancy K7 Media, Knowledge partner of KMW 2017. During his speech, the British media analyst told how the old shows were brought up to date and relevant with the right changes to the host, contestants and look, but with the same tried and tested mechanic. David particularly focused on how classic formats are being brought to new audiences on digital platforms such as Snapchat, Netflix and Facebook.

The event organizers meet the challenges that media market is currently facing with and understand the increasing demand of broadcasters and prodcos from the region for fresh ideas, new business models, and partnerships. Format Show screening and the conference is held twice a year: Spring Edition and traditionally in September in the course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK.
