9 September 2015, 13:40

On 8th of September the Round Table Discussion: New Legislation in Forth and Upcoming Trade Regulation of Ukrainian TV and Media Sphere was held in the course of the V international mediaforum KYIV MEDIA WEEK. It is a joint initiative of KYIV MEDIA WEEK forum, Telecommunications Chamber of Ukraine, and #KinoKraina activist group.

Lawyers from leading TV and media companies of Ukraine, representatives of state institutions, experts and business leaders from Ukraine and other countries came to discuss the most pertinent topics of the media market: Ivan Shestakov, MEGOGO (Ukraine); Anatoliy Maksimchuk, StarLightMedia (Ukraine); Philip Illyenko, head of Ukrainian National Film Agency; Vladimir Kotenko, Ernst&Young (Ukraine); Grigoriy Shverk, deputy head of the Ukrainian National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting; Yuriy Kraynyak, Jurimex (Ukraine); Olga Panteleymonova, StarMedia (Ukraine); Irina Stroyko, 1+1 Media (Ukraine); Viktoriya Tsomaya, VOLIA (Ukraine); and others.

One of the most important was the issue on an anti-piracy law reformation. Ivan Shestakov, MEGOGO marketing director, told that the fight with piracy is slowed down by played-out legislative framework, which is too tough for the market players. The effectiveness of the law strictly depends on the compromise in the sphere of allocation of responsibilities. "Anti-piracy law will not work unless it does not keeps the right holders and telecommunications operators under pressure", he added. And mentioned that in the countries with a balanced system of pirated content filtration, business gets some liberalization of the law.
