How the SVOD-revolution opened a window of opportunities for content creators: inspiration talk by Lilia Kim

21 August 2018, 14:08

Lilia Kim, a member of the Writers Guild of America (West), who has proved that an author with a non-native English can enter the international market and succeed in Hollywood will deliver a speech at KYIV MEDIA WEEK on September 18.

Lilia Kim's keynote is called ‘SVOD-revolution: when everyone is allowed!’. Today, when SVOD (subscription video on demand) platforms, which allow the viewer to interact with content at any convenient time, anywhere and on any device, are a common thing, everyone is talking about the changes in distribution methods. But Lilia Kim chose a different aspect.

Namely, what opportunities all this opens for the authors. After all, today – when the content can be created independently, tested on the Internet and delivered to the viewers around the world – a wide window of opportunities for all participants in the process of its creation is opened. And for the screenwriters – even with non-native English – as well.

Lilia Kim herself is a living example of how to really take advantage of these opportunities. A Russian screenwriter, she successfully worked for ten years on the national TV market as the author of prime-time series and co-productions, and in 2015 she received an offer to work in the USA on projects focused on international distribution.

Now she is a full member of the Writers Guild of America (West), lives and works in Los Angeles. Her job includes thinking and implementing a strategy for content promotion and distribution, in particular series, for the widest possible audience on digital platforms. Lilia Kim begins to engage in the development of this strategy in the early stages of the project with the help of her screenwriting experience as well as degree in marketing.

‘Among all those who promise to teach to make a living by creating stories from anywhere in the world – I have a working proof of concept. Mainly this happened because I used the same chance that there is now among people writing for Ukraine – the same window of opportunities when an enormous amount of content is urgently needed, and at the same time there is an acute shortage of people who can create it. The moment when you can dive straight into the work and stay in it forever – this chance happens once for several generations and only after a complete reboot of the system’, – says Lilia Kim. Learn about how to use your chances not only on the local, but also on the international market at her keynote at KMW 2018.

Inspiration talk by Lilia Kim ‘SVOD-revolution: when everyone is allowed!’ will be held on the second day of KYIV MEDIA WEEK (September 18) from 12:10 to 13:00.
