1 September 2016, 11:36

KIEV CoProduction Meetings – conference on the theory and practice of co-production as well as pitching of international projects will take place on September 20 at Hyatt Regency Kyiv hotel in the course of media forum KYIV MEDIA WEEK.

Co-production is becoming a dominant trend in the global industry of television and cinema. Thanks to it, producers have the opportunity to combine financial, creative and technical resources for large-scale and complex content production of various genres.

So, two successful international projects will be the KEY CASE STUDIES at the next KIEV CoProduction Meetings conference:

• co-production of France (Haut et Court) and the UK (Warp Films) in the hi-end series drama "The Last Panthers". The project is interesting by its synergistic format: heroes of the drama speak different languages (English, French, Serbian), while the dialogues are not dubbed on separate territories. The project was filmed in France, the UK, Serbia, and Hungary.

Speaker: Peter CARLTON,
producer, joint CEO of Warp Films,
United Kingdom

Series drama "The Last Panthers" was presented during non-competition screenings Series! at Odessa International Film Festival. Screening of the six international projects in the course of Series! was organized by Ukraine TV channel in partnership with KYIV MEDIA WEEK and FILM.UA Group (that became the start of a joint project TViy Serial). Peter Carlton’s case study at KIEV CoProduction Meetings will be a continuation of the partnership with Ukraine TV channel.

Another successful case study for presentation and panel discussion will be:

• an "exotic" co-production of South Korea (Mountain TV) and Spain (Zanskar Producciones) in the reality show "Strangers in the Wild". Episodes of this dynamic travel show were filmed in Korea, Spain, and Morocco.

Speaker: Miles CHOI,
CEO of Bethel Global Media Contents,
South Korea

KIEV CoProduction Meeting will consist of three thematic parts. In the morning, participants will learn about practical case studies from the producers of international companies about their experience in making successful projects. To conclude this, panel discussion "International co-production in Europe. Trends and Opportunities" with market experts will be held. Discussion topics: series co-production in Europe; multilinguality in series; financial aspects of production, national incentives, assistance from funds and film commissions; topics and forms of series; examples of Ukrainian and international co-production; prospects for Ukrainian producers.

The afternoon will be devoted to the pitching. Among the 21 applications submitted for pitching, the expert jury will select 9 best projects that will be presented to all participants of KIEV CoProduction Meetings. Authors of other projects will be able to hold individual 10-minute pitchings with TV & film producers and independent prodcos in the third part of the conference.

You can find the catalogue of all projects submitted for the pitching on KYIV MEDIA WEEK website.

After 9 public pitchings, the jury will vote and select one winner. Thanks to the partnership with Ukraine TV channel, the author of the best project will receive coverage on TV, as well as a ticket to Paris to participate in the International Festival Series Mania.

Today KIEV CoProduction Meetings is the only playground of this scale in the CIS region, providing a comprehensive promotion of new TV projects for international co-production.

Among the projects previously submitted for KIEV CoProduction Meetings pitching, which are already under development, it is worth noting the following:

• documentary project "Postcards from Ukraine" by German company Mimesi'S Culture, which was completed and submitted to the professional audience this year at Hot Docs festival in Toronto;

• project of the feature film "Tank" by Ukrainian company Noosphere Films, which won the pitching at Berlinale Co-Production Market in Berlin;
