KYIV CoProduction Meetings

International television co-production represents a dominant trend in international television and film production industry which is increasingly global in orientation. Co-production provides the means to pool financial, creative and technical resources from participating parties for the production of the content of various genres. Collaboration of the producers from different countries has the potential of providing fascinating insight into certain topics, development of innovative media forms, entails financial and creative commitments, allows producers to access the new funding and distribution mechanisms etc.

KYIV MEDIA WEEK presents a co-production event, which is unique for the territories of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and CIS countries  - KYIV CoProduction Meetings that is focused on theory and practice of international TV content co-production.

KYIV CoProduction Meetings at KYIV MEDIA WEEK  (KMW) – is the first content marketplace of our region designed for pitching and promotion of TV projects of different formats that look for co-production, as well as facilitate the co-production market in our region by allowing the local Producers to cooperate with international TV projects. KIEV CoProduction Meetings is a new regular platform for exchange of experience, discussions and business networking in TV co-production process of the region.

KYIV CoProduction Meetings was held on September 16, 2014 in Radisson Blu Hotel conference room (22 Yaroslaviv Val St., Kiev, Ukraine).

TV Producers, TV stations, trade associations, production companies, studios and investment funds from Europe, CIS countries, Caucasus and other regions of the world were invited to take part in KIEV CoProduction Meetings 2014.

The work of KYIV CoProduction Meetings contained 2 parts:

1 part – Discussion Panel – Speakers and Experts in co-production shared their experience and opinions on co-production situation in the region. Presentation of case studies:

- Docudrama Mystical Tales. The project was created by three co-producers and was aired on TV channels of three countries, 110 episodes are already shot and new seasons production is still underway. Each version is held by a popular host. Projects are presented by producers Igor Storchak and Elena Malkova (FILM.UA Group, Ukraine);

- Hinterland/Y Gwyll - gripping detective drama that was filmed in two languages. It’s a great co-production result of five companies: Fiction Factory, S4C, Tinopolis, BBC Cymru Wales and ALL3MEDIA International ltd. So far, Hinterland has been sold to at least 12 countries. Netflix has sealed rights in the US and Canada. Showcase is presented by Gwawr Martha Lloyd (S4C, Wales, Great Britain). 

2 part – Pitching of TV Co-Production Projects.

15 minutes presentation was given to each pre-selected projects (total number of projects – 8). During 10 minutes producer or director presented the materials, explained the project concept, production specifics, potential of the project and expectations from co-producers. Additional 5 minutes were given for Q&A session.

All the participants recieved catalogues with detailed description of the 20 projects. Brief information about the projects for co-production is available in the digital catalogue
